Along with being a new mama to a beautiful baby girl, Joyce Lee also happens to be the head of design for Madewell, AKA, the woman behind the perfect playground-to-office-to-date-night mom uniform. Joyce embodies the brand’s relaxed, cool-girl-who-never-tries-too-hard vibe in everything she does—from her laid-back approach to motherhood to her eclectic personal style and home decor. It’s no surprise, then, that she’s been with Madewell since its inception, and feels a deep connection to her role there. When she’s not designing the clothes of our dreams (attention mamas-to-be: look out for Madewell’s maternity denim, which just launched), Joyce can be found at home in Brooklyn with her photographer husband, James Ryang, and their 15 month-old daughter, Poppy, who stole our hearts the second she greeted us at the door. Over the course of our shoot, the duo played dress-up and danced around the apartment together, while Joyce shared her dramatic natural birth story with us (she was 9.5 centimeters dilated when she arrived at the hospital!) and her inspiring thoughts on the roller coaster first year of motherhood.
